Background of Chandnaish upazila

Chandanaish is an important locality in Chittagong district. The Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway flows over Chandanaish. The eastern part of the upazila is covered with tree-covered hills and natural forest. This place originated about 2000 years ago. Arakan was a Seaport during the Mughal Rule. Merchants from Burma (Burma, Myanmar) and various countries in the Middle East used to trade in the fibrous wood of the beautiful and fragrant sandalwood produced in the region at Munsef Bazar in the upazila. It is said that the region was named Chandanaish after the name of sandalwood. Chandanaish was once an integral part of Patia Upazila. Chandanaish Thana was born in 1976 after being separated from Patia. Chandanaish was declared as an upazila in 1983.

This upazila consists of 9 Unions and 1 Municipality. Dhopachhari Union is situated in hilly areas adjoining Bandarban and Rangunia, Dohazari, Hasimpur and Kanchanabad 3 Unions are partially hilly. On the other hand Joara, Barkal, Burma, Bailtali and Satbaria including Chandnaish Municipality are all plain areas. Patia and Rangunia is situated to the north of Chandnaish, Satkania to the south, Bandarban and Rangunia to the east and Anwara upazila to the west. Note that at present there is no Seaport and no Sandalwood in this area. Among the mineral resources, white soil and various types of precious stones and the weaving cloth of Thami and towel weaving in the urban area of ​​Kanchanabad are no longer visible. Wild animals include Elephants, Deer, Monkeys, Hanuman, Foxes, Wild Chickens, Carcasses, etc also are rarely seen here. But Wild Chickens are sometimes seen. Lemon and Pineapple from the forest and Guava from Kanchannagar are Known all over the country.  During the British rule, the first Eri was cultivated in Chandanaish area in South Chittagong with the goodwill of a Governor. There is 'Patia Tea Garden' in Kanchanabad Union. The cottage industry for making ‘Hand Fan’ in Satbaria and South Jowara and the pottery for making ‘pots’ in Kumar Palli in North Jowara are playing a very helpful role in meeting the needs of the people.

Hazrat Shah Amin Ullah (RA), Hazrat Mostan Ali Shah (RA), Hazrat Hafez Ansur Ali (RA), Hazrat Akkel Ali Shah, Caliph of Garangia Darbar, Hazrat Mao: Abdullah (Harla) were born in this holy land. Famous personalities include Bhasa Sainik Principal Abul Kashem, Maolana Moniruzzaman Islamabadi (RA), Jatindra Mohansen, SM Sen, National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam, Poet and Writer Ahmad Shafa and others were also born here. Notable places or installations include Hazrat Bhui Khwaja Jame Mosque, Chagachar Khan Mosque, Jamizuri Massacre, Hazari Dighi (Dohazari), Khan Jame Mosque (Bagichar Hat), Satbaria Shanti Vihar, Shuklambar Dighi in Boroma, Jowara Pagla Garad. The Shonkho River, Ochinkhali carries the tradition of this lake.
